Climax #1671, McGoldrick #4-Craig Mountain #5

Climax #1671 is another of the piston valve equipped locomotives that predated the cast steel trucks. This locomotive is noteworthy because of the trucks it was equipped with. This truck design is an intermediate step between the arch bar and the cast steel truck side frames. A steel casting in this design replaced the bolster pedestals and middle bar in the side frame. Apparently this didn’t satisfy all the problems, as only a few were made before the cast steel side frames were introduced. However, the truck must have still been fairly robust, as this locomotive lasted fairly late. Most of the arch bar truck castings offered by PLC fit this truck. This truck side frame casting is in process.
